Principal's Message

A Message from Mrs. Martin:

Dear Blazers,

I am excited to introduce myself as the new principal of Bathgate Elementary School. Currently, the staff is working hard getting ready for the start of this new school year, as we “Blaze a Trail for Student Success!”   Embracing the spirit of change, we aim to preserve what is great about our school while taking advantage of the ideas that come with the many new faces. In case you missed my introductory message, I have included a summary of biographical information about myself below.

My husband and I have two wonderful kids that are now allowing us to be “semi-empty nesters”!  After completing two years of college at CSU Monterey, Katie is now attending OCC to obtain her Photography Certificate, and Jackson will attend Saddleback after graduating from Mission Viejo High School in June. Both are looking forward to new adventures while I look forward to joining the Bathgate family as an extension of my own.

My 34 years in the education field began in Capistrano Unified School District as a third grade teacher at Crown Valley Elementary.  After enjoying several years of teaching, I became an assistant principal at Bergeson, Del Obispo, RH Dana and ENF.   I then served as the principal at Palisades Elementary for six years and Viejo Elementary for six years before opening Oso Grande Elementary in Ladera Ranch fourteen years ago.  Time certainly flies…when I opened Oso, my own children were four and six years old – they are now 18 and 20 years old!   During my tenure in CUSD, I have learned the most important part of working with kids and families is building relationships. I am committed to teaming with our school community to communicate openly and honestly in the interest of our kids and their futures. I believe in the power of leveraging the collective expertise of our community as teachers, parents, and professionals to continually refine and redefine the way we approach obstacles in order to empower students who are ready to create, invent, and solve in the decades to come.

Bathgate is a phenomenal school because of its teachers, support staff, families and students. It has an excellent reputation in regards to its high academic standards and outstanding programs. I am very excited to have the opportunity to continue the work Mrs. Kurtz and the entire Bathgate staff has been focused on in regards to providing studnets with 21st Century skills, data driven instructional goals, and rigorous, engaging and differentiated lessons that are essential for preparing every student for post-secondary options.

In conclusion, I am thrilled to join the team at Bathgate Elementary School and look forward to the 2019-20 school year. As the principal, my door is always open and I welcome your input and collaboration.  I look forward to meeting you all and helping to make the 2019-20 school year the best year ever for our students.

With warmest regards from your newest Bathgate Blazer,

Jayne Martin
