Kindergarten Supplies

A big thank you to all of you who have already donated classroom supplies.  We appreciate your generosity!

ACLU-STATEMENT

California law does not allow school districts to charge fees to students for curricular and extracurricular activities.  However, as you are aware, due to state budget cut backs, schools can no longer afford to fund many of these activities.  Therefore, we are requesting voluntary donations from parents to offset the costs of these programs.  Parents are not required to make donations, and all students may participate in extracurricular activities regardless of whether their parents make a donation.  For additional information, please visit the CUSD link on Student Fees at:  https://capousd-ca.schoolloop.com/studentfees

Mrs. Doane & Mrs. Peterson - Room 1

Welcome to Kindergarten!

 Educational Philosophy

In our classroom we strive to teach children using a variety of modalities, strategies and settings. We believe in meeting each of our student's individual needs. Working cooperatively with parents and fellow teachers is a priority. We believe in a balanced literacy program, including shared reading, guided reading, independent reading, writing, and word study.

We teach children to become independent, responsible scholars that love to learn!

We are so excited to be teaching Kindergarten at Bathgate this year!!

HELPFUL HOMEWORK TIPS

Does your child have a special work area for completing homework? Be sure to have your child complete his or her homework in a quiet, well-organized spot. Keep all homework materials in this area for easy access. Materials should include: sharpened pencils with good erasers,  wide-ruled notebook paper, and their current chapter book. Homework should not be completed in the car or in front of the TV.  Establishing good work habits early on is necessary for future success! For the majority of students, homework assignments are at their independent level. For the first months of school, please help your child develop homework strategies and closely monitor their progress each day.

Some strategies Kindergarteners find are helpful:

1) Eat a quick snack before starting

2) Take a quick break when they get home, but complete homework before going out to play

3) Complete shorter assignments first

4) Check off or make a tally mark in the box on their homework contract after each assignment is completed

5) Complete daily reading last or before bedtime; record book read on Reading log

6) Pack up all materials before leaving the homework area

Meet Mrs. Doane

Hi, I am Mrs. Doane.  This is my 19th year teaching in CUSD.  I taught 4 years at Wagon Wheel (I was Miss Robertson back then!) and 10 years at Tijeras Creek before coming to Bathgate.  I attended UC Santa Barbara as both an undergrad and as a graduate student.  I have my AAA/GATE Certificate and Reading Instruction Certificate through the district.  I also have a Masters Degree in Education and a CLAD Certificate.   I have a wonderful husband named Brian.  I have 2 fabulous children.  A daughter named Taylor and a son named Griffin.  In my free time I love to take pictures, travel, play soccer, snowboard, dance, practice yoga, work in my garden,  go shopping and most of all spend time with my family and friends.  I love children and guiding their bright minds. Teaching is an honor, a privilege, and a joy.  I am looking forward to an exciting year as we work together to insure your child's success.

Please never hesitate to call or email me at madoane@capousd.org with any questions or concerns.

Meet Mrs. Peterson

Hi! I am Mrs. Peterson.  I truly feel that I have been a teacher all my life.  I come from a family of teachers, including my mom, aunt and uncle, and grandparents.  I grew up always knowing that I would become an educator.  I love working with children and feel blessed to be working in a field that I love!  This is my 12th year in CUSD and my 13th year teaching.  I've taught 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade and especially enjoy the primary aged child.  I grew up in Napa, California and came to Southern California for college at UC Irvine.  I received both my undergraduate degree and my Teaching Credential from UC Irvine.  I live in Ladera Ranch with my husband, Robb, my two children, Sydney and Cole, and our dog, Bogey.   I love spending time with my family and am enjoying all the precious moments.  I love sports, hanging at the beach, going to the movies, shopping, and eating out with family and friends!  I look forward to a great year with your family!

I can be reached at clpeterson@capousd.org with any questions or concerns.
