A Message from Mrs. Kurtz:

Dear Bathgate Students, Parents, and Community Members,

Welcome to Bathgate Elementary School! My name is Shelly Kurtz and I am proud to be your Principal!
I hope you find our school to be a welcoming environment that provides an enriching curriculum, geared toward meeting the highest of standards.

A little bit about me: I started my career in CUSD in 1996.  I taught fourth and fifth grades for many years at Hidden Hills Elementary and was on the planning team to assist in the opening of Laguna Niguel Elementary in 2002.  Before being appointed as Bathgate’s principal, I was an Assistant Principal for two years at Ladera Ranch Elementary School, Bergeson Elementary School, Barcelona Elementary School, Palisades Elementary School, and Viejo Elementary School. During my tenure as a classroom teacher, I was honored to be named CUSD’s 1999-2000 Elementary School Teacher of the Year, and a finalist, for Orange County Elementary Teacher of the Year. I am married and blessed with two incredible daughter, two wonderful son-in-laws, and two precious grandsons.

Bathgate is a special place!  We have a positive, collaborative school environment, which is the key to successful students and teachers. I am incredibly fortunate to work with Bathgate’s exceptional staff, who are all committed to making a positive difference in the lives of our students. They work collaboratively to ensure consistency and maximize learning opportunities.  A seasoned staff, they are always looking for ways to improve instruction and utilize best practices.  The office personnel are dedicated to supporting instruction and communication.

Students at Bathgate are encouraged to consider themselves scholars and take responsibility for their learning.   Our goals for our students are not only to achieve academic excellence and develop 21st century technology and communication skills, but to become the best Blazer citizens they can be!

Thank you for entrusting us with your children each day. It is an honor and a responsibility we do not take lightly. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the school office at any time. We will be happy to assist you. Thank you for being an important member of our Bathgate Community.  Together, we make our school a success!

Sincerely,

Shelly Kurtz, Principal
