BATHGATE FUN RUN – BOOSTERTHON – MARCH 16

Our Bathgate Fun Run kicked off on Monday, March 5th with an exciting Pep Rally, and we are thrilled about this year’s program! We’ve asked the Fun Run experts at Boosterthon to power our Fun Run program (which will last two weeks), making our fundraising simpler, more profitable, and more fun. Our Fun Run includes EVERY student in a fun, fitness event while helping our school raise much-needed funds.

Here’s how you can support Bathgate Elementary:

  • Register your student on funrun.com using this code: 884347
  • Once you do, your student will receive a FREE GIFT just for being registered. Then, use funrun.com to log pledges for your child.
  • Reach out to sponsors. Every student’s goal is to connect with 10 sponsors. And with funrun.com’s smart sharing features, reaching out to sponsors is easier than ever. The easiest way to get pledges is to simply click the Facebook share button on your student’s pledge page. Plus, with a few clicks you can create a custom Student Star video to share on social media. You can also use the Easy Emailer to connect with friends and family. As you gather pledges, be sure to record each sponsor’s e-mail address so they have the opportunity to easily pay for your student’s pledge online via credit card.
  • Ask your child about the Castle Quest Character Lesson of the day! This year’s character program is Castle Quest, a castle theme all about bravery. On their quest to regain Bravemore Castle, students will learn the “SIX VIRTUES of a TRUE HERO” from a cast of colorful characters. Join along by watching the fun character videos with your child on funrun.com.
  • Come to the Fun Run on March 16! All students are included in the Fun Run, regardless of financial participation. Remember, students will be running 30-35 laps, and we would love for you to come out and cheer!

IN ORDER FOR YOUR STUDENT TO PARTICIPATE IN THE BOOSTERTHON FUN RUN A PTA PARTICIPANT WAIVER MUST BE SIGNED.  PLEASE SEE THE ATTACHED WAIVER , AND DOWNLOAD IT IF NEEDED.THESE WAIVERS ARE DUE NO LATER THAN MARCH 13, 2018!  THERE ARE EXTRA’S IN THE FRONT OFFICE!

We need YOU!!   We need to elect three parents to serve on the Bathgate School Site Council (SSC) for the 2017-18 and 2018-19 school years.

SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL

ELECTION INFORMATION

Bathgate Elementary

What is School Site Council? School Site Council serves several purposes, such as reviewing and approving the expenditure of funds under Local Control Funding and CUSD’s Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP). School Site Council members also provide input for Bathgate’s Single School Plan for Student Achievement each year. In addition, School Site Council meetings serve as Bathgate’s English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) our School Discipline & Safety Committee. All California public schools are required to have a School Site Council.

Who can serve on School Site Council? School Site Council consists of 12 members (six parents and/or community members; four teachers; one “other school personnel” such as a non-classroom teacher or site classified staff member; and the principal). The three parents/community members starting their second year on School Site Council are Miranda Bhutani, Reza Khanjan, and Sue Livadas. Interested individuals who would like to serve on School Site Council for a two year term are asked to return the attached SSC Interest Form to Principal Shelly Kurtz no later than Friday, February 23, 2018. This information can also be e-mailed to srkurtz@capousd.org . Names will be placed on a School Site Council ballot and an election will be held. Parents/community members elect parents/community members, teachers elect teachers, and “other school personnel” elect “other school personnel.” The principal is the chairperson of School Site Council and is not elected. This is a wonderful opportunity to be involved at Bathgate -- even if you have never heard of a Single School Plan for Student Achievement or LCAP!

When are School Site Council meetings held? School Site Council will meet at least three times during the school year on Thursdays at 2:40 pm. The meetings have been scheduled for March 15, 2018 (for newly elected members), March 22 and/or April 12, 2018, April 19, 2018, and April 26, 2018. Meetings are open to the community/public and typically last an hour and a half.

Friday, February 23 – Deadline for submitting information to become a candidate for School Site Council. (Complete and return the attached ballot information form to the office or e-mail it to Mrs. Kurtz at srkurtz@capousd.org )

City’s Oso Fit 5K Fun Run will feature fun courses for kids

Excitement continues to build for the City of Mission Viejo’s inaugural Oso Fit 5K Fun Run on March 3 that will include both quarter- and half-mile runs specifically for kids.

The Children’s Cerebral Palsy Movement (CCPM) is teaming up with the City to host the kids’ runs that coincide with the annual Community Health Fair and 5K Fun Run at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center.

While the event will benefit many causes, it will mark a breakthrough for kids with Cerebral Palsy (CP) – and other disabilities – who have never participated in a race-like setting.

“The Cerebral Palsy run within a run is a perfect opportunity for children with CP to experience something many have never dreamed possible, and they can do it in a safe and supported environment side by side with their peers and with other able-bodied children,” said Debbie Fragner, founder of CCPM.  “We are grateful for the opportunity that the City of Mission Viejo is providing as children with CP are often left on the sidelines in these events normally assembled for able-bodied runners.”

The event kicks off at 7:30 a.m. with a community health fair featuring more than 50 booths. The 5K run follows at 8:30 a.m., with the quarter- and half-mile runs beginning at 9:30 a.m. All children participating in the kids’ walk/run will take home a special medal.

The City of Mission Viejo has a long history of supporting and hosting programs that provide inclusion opportunities. The course will be accessible even for kids with braces, crutches, walkers and wheelchairs. Members of Capistrano Valley High School’s boys track team will act as running buddies for children needing extra support and encouragement along the abbreviated course.

All pre-registration fees will benefit Mission Viejo nonprofits. Please chose Bathgate when you register. To register, visit http://osofit5k.org.

*BATHGATE FOUNDATION-Celebration Chrome Book*

In December 2017 a flyer was sent home for Celebration Chrome Book. We are raising funds to provide chrome books or tablets for each student.  Bathgate Elementary School Foundation needs your help!

Our goal is to raise enough funds to purchase fifty-four chrome books.  This year Bathgate’s Foundation is looking to get additional chrome books and other technology into our classrooms.  Currently we have to share chrome books with up to 5 different classrooms which means our students are not as technologically advanced as other schools in our area.  Each chrome book costs our school $250.00.  We are looking for sponsors for chrome books.  The amount donated is a tax write off and will greatly benefit our students, which in turn will make us a better school.  In return, if you choose to sponsor us, your contact information could be listed our “Partners in Education” directory that goes out to our 700+ families, and/or we can put your name “Donated By” and/or logo on the chrome book that we are able to purchase with your donation.  Donations can be made in the office to BESF or online.

Leave your legacy by donating a chrome book!

ADOPT A BATHGATE FAMILY FOR THE HOLIDAYS

Let's share the joy of the holidays with our fellow Bathgate families in need of our care!

Kindly sign up to donate an item on their wish list and bring the unwrapped gift with the name of the recipient (ie: Rudolph – Boy 7) to our school office by Tuesday, Dec. 19th.  Please see the link attached for the Wish List. We will wrap the items and deliver them to our families.

Thank you all for your generosity and dedication to our students and school this year.  Together we're paving the way to our brightest year yet!

Cheerfully yours,

On November 8th, a Little Free Library was dedicated to Bathgate Elementary School in memory of Mrs. Pat Bathgate.  Every school day the Pat Bathgate Little Free Library will be rolled out to the table area by the playground, so that students can borrow a book and/or donate a book whenever they wish. Mrs. Bathgate believed in the importance of education and she enjoyed reading with students whenever she was here at school. She would be very pleased to know that our Bathgate Blazers have a Little Free Library they can visit, to practice their reading and get lost in a good book!

**ATTENDANCE & TARDIES** This year we are kicking off a school wide program to help improve attendance and tardies.  Our theme is called “Attendance Hero”.  Our goal is to bring awareness to the link between attendance and student achievement.  This program is intended to help boost attendance at a school wide level.  Classrooms will be displaying the letters to spell “Here, Every day, Ready, On Time”.  Once your child’s class has spelled out all of the words, they will earn a class reward!  We will be starting this program on Monday, November 6th.  We encourage you to set up a good morning routine.
