5th Grade Science Camp 2017/2018

Science/Outdoor Education/Leadership

Note to Parents and Guardians:

Fees for outdoor science school camp programs are legally permissible, as long as no student is prevented from attending because of lack of sufficient funds. (EC Section 35335.) Payment and Fundraising Q&A

      Q.  What if I can not pay or fund raise $430.00?

A.   All students can attend science camp, regardless of payment or fundraising.       Families are asked to pay or fundraise the full amount, or whatever they are able to afford. All students will be included regardless of payment.

  1. Does my child have to participate in fundraising?
  1. NO.  You can write a check for $430.00 and you are done.

  1. How much money can my child earn fundraising?
  1. The entire amount or less.

  1. What kind of fundraising opportunities are there?
  1. We offer 2 categories: (1) Direct sales  (2) Concessions.
    1. Direct sales are available to every student.  These are big money makers because it goes directly to your child.  Many Blazers earned over $200-$300 last year participating in these sales.  Currently the (3) direct sales are See’s Candy, Mixed Bags and Fall Cookie Dough.
    2. Concession stands are held at school events or after school hours (popsicle sales, Year End Grams, Boo Grams, etc.)  Profits are divided amongst the volunteers by hours worked after expenses.

  1. How many direct sales fundraisers can my child participate in?
  1. ALL!

  1. How many concession stands can my child participate in?
  1. Concession stands have limited slots so you can only choose one.  If you have twins, you are allowed to choose two.

  1. Who keeps track of the sales for my child?
  1. We do!  Event chairs report all sales to the committee.  The treasurer keeps a separate account for every student including payments made by you.

NOTE:  Please keep track of your account.  There will be NO refunds after your child has met their $430.00 requirement for camp.

Greetings Families,

Below are videos the fifth grade team puts together each year in an effort to share with you the special times occurring at 6,000ft. We wanted to give you a glimpse of the behind-the-scenes process so you can understand how it works. Our job at Pali is advisory, which affords us the opportunity to be anywhere we are needed, at any time. (This is a blessing.) Most of the time, the teachers are off in different directions tending to different needs, checking-in on students, or planning additional activities. The videos we post are an extension of our team's commitment to making your separation from your child easier for all those involved. They are by no means mandatory, but we are happy to do it. That said, each day, (sometimes twice a day) we sit down, grab camera cards and iPhones, download pictures, assemble them quickly, apply some fun tunes, compress the video file, and post to the website. We have significant technological bandwidth limitations that slow this process down. Each little movie is at least a three hour process.

The intent of the videos is to give you a snapshot of what your kids are up to and the fun they are having. With 100+ fifth graders, for us to capture every smiling face on any given day would be impossible, and add additional hours to an already lengthy process. As we make our way around campus, we just keep firing our cameras in an attempt to capture the moments not the individuals, though we try our best to get as many as we can. (Some kids even avoid the camera, which makes it a bit more challenging:-) )

Know that we understand your desire to see your scholar's smile, and we do our best. Our biggest wish is for you to transpose the face of your little one into these amazing activities, and understand our efforts are not to attempt comprehensive capture (though we try), but to provide an overview of the experience.

Thank you,

The Fifth Grade Team

Tech note: To preserve quality, the videos files are quite large. Bring them up on your computer, press play, walk away, let it play choppy, come back and push play again, your second run-through should be quite a bit smoother. Know also that numerous people will "hit" Bathgate's website at one time which will also affect performance:)
